GutenDisplay

Your calendars, at a glance

Turn a TV into a readable calendar for your home, workshop, or shared space. GutenDisplay brings upcoming days into a simple scrolling view, with event details a remote-button press away.

GutenDisplay is a project from Gutenberg Armory, operated by Printcent Van Gogh LLC, doing business as Gutenberg Armory.

What it does

  • Display calendars you connect through Google Calendar, an HTTPS iCalendar subscription, or an imported .ics file.
  • Browse days and events with your TV remote. Open descriptions, locations, organizer information, and guest responses when the calendar provides them.
  • Keep an encrypted calendar cache on the TV so saved events remain available without internet access or a running computer.
  • Refresh connected calendars when internet access is available. Imported files remain snapshots until you import an updated file.

Connect Google from your phone

Start linking from GutenDisplay on the TV, scan its QR code, and enter the TV code in your phone's browser. Sign in directly with Google and choose a calendar to display. No companion app installation is required for this linking method.

Google grants read-only access to calendars your account can access. The linking service reads the calendar list so you can choose; the TV downloads events from the calendars you add. GutenDisplay does not create or edit events, send invitations, or change RSVPs.

Local display, with an authorization service

Calendar events are cached on your TV. A small Cloudflare-hosted service handles Google linking and access-token renewal; it does not host your calendar-event database. The TV retrieves Google events directly from Google. Internet access is required for linking and online refresh, including Google token renewal. Already saved events remain visible during an outage.

Your TV is a shared screen: choose calendars and event details that are appropriate for everyone who can see it.

Availability

GutenDisplay is currently in pre-release testing on Fire TV. It is not yet listed for public download in the Amazon Appstore. Public availability will be announced here. Outlook, other account providers, Samsung TV packaging, and task synchronization are not currently offered.
